About Us

Chelsea Pony Club was established in Eskdale Road in 1987 and is part of the 10,000 strong New Zealand Pony Club Association (NZPCA). We are a branch of the Waitamata District Pony Club who have over 600 members.

Here at Chelsea we aim to be an active club in both internal club life and outside events. We have a close-knit family dynamic to us, where we strive to put ourselves out there and do the best to our ability. Often we surprise ourselves as to how much we do achieve!

Our goal is to have a fun and successful riding season full of horses, learning, improving and good times. Our pony club experience is not just about riding, it's also about the positive life skills we develop through our passion for horses and our dedication to a the sport.

We have two types of membership:

Riders Without Horses (RWH) - Kids from any walk of life to learn about good horse-keeping!

Riders With Horses (Grazing Members and Floating-In Members)

Many parents of our riders had no prior experience with horses but have a horse-mad child. All you need is the willingness to learn and there is plenty of support around the club. If your child is 16 years and under, for safety reasons you will need to be on on-site when they are riding so your time is required. By the end of your first season we guarantee you will be on your child's pony and partaking in the Adult's Egg & Spoon Race at the Christmas breakup event.

The minimum age is mainly dependent on the experience of the parent. If you are new to equestrian matters then a good age for your child to join pony club is about 10 years old. Individual coaching can be arranged as well as leasing ponies for a season or two. The maximum age for a Riding Member is 25 years however this does not stop anyone at any age from becoming a Non-Riding Adult Member and enjoying the fellowship that Chelsea Pony Club has to offer.
